The Day of St.Theodore - Horse Easter in Momchilovtsi

Todorov den or also famous like Horse Easter in the Bulgarian village of Momchilovtsi, Bulgaria on March 04, 2017 In the Christian Orthodox calendar the first week of the Great Lent is dedicated to St Theodore Tiron.St Todor is a day of health and fecundity of the horses. Traditionally the young brides went up before the sunrise to bake ritual loaves shaped as a colt or a horseshoe. The holiday is celebrated with horse competitions and races testing the animals' strength and marks the spring, Momchilovtsi, Bulgaria on March 04, 2017

Snowstorms wreak chaos in Bulgaria

Snow paralyse Eastern Bulgaria. The snow reached 30 - 70 sm at different places, the movement is restricted and in some regions are blocked. There are a lot of villages without water, electricity and with a little food. The temperatures of the air reached -15 celsius and in that fact some of the big rivers along the country are frozen. The people in the Bulgarian border town of Svilengrad, some 260 eastern from the capital of Sofia, have never seen winter like this from 1982 year. The town is located some 15 km from the Bulgaria - Turkish border, near Kapitan Andrevo border-crossing point on January 10,11,12, 2017
